Don Flynn, Owner & President

Donald Flynn, a fourth-generation Idahoan born in Twin Falls in 1960, has devoted his life to craftsmanship and service. Raised in Twin Falls, Donald grew up appreciating the beauty of Idaho’s four seasons and its rugged landscapes, which now inspire the custom homes he builds.

Military Service
After graduating high school, Donald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country. His time in the military instilled in him the values of discipline, leadership, and resilience—qualities that have shaped his career and continue to guide his approach to building homes.

Career in Construction
Donald’s journey in construction began with hands-on roles as a framer and form setter for concrete bridges. These foundational experiences gave him a deep understanding of the industry, and in time, he turned his passion into a thriving custom home building company. Since founding his business, Donald has become a respected leader in the field, known for his ability to turn his clients’ dreams into reality. His leadership and expertise are the backbone of every home he builds, ensuring quality and satisfaction at every step.

Life Beyond Building
Outside of work, Donald is an adventurer and outdoorsman who loves fishing, hunting, wake surfing, snow skiing, and white-water rafting. He’s equally passionate about traveling, boating, motorcycle riding, and golfing. When not enjoying Idaho’s natural beauty, Donald works out to stay fit and energized for his active lifestyle.

A Passion for Idaho
For Donald, Idaho is more than a place—it’s home. He cherishes the mountains, rivers, and lakes that make the state so unique, with fall being his favorite season. His deep connection to Idaho is reflected in every home he builds, combining functionality and elegance to complement the state’s natural charm.

Scott Johnson, Construction Manager

Born in Everett, Washington in 1963, Scott Johnson grew up with a love for building that started in childhood. After moving to Boise in 1974, Scott honed his skills working alongside his father, a builder, who introduced him to the construction world at a young age. By 15, Scott was a lead framer, shaping everything from high-end residential homes to commercial buildings across Alaska, California, and Washington.

Military Service

Scott's family has a long history of military service, with several members serving proudly in the U.S. Army. His grandpa was a paratrooper in World War II, and his brother served in Desert Storm. Scott’s nephew is currently serving in the Army, as is his son-in-law. His uncle served in Vietnam, all of them having honored the family’s commitment to duty and country. This deep-rooted military tradition has shaped Scott’s work ethic and sense of responsibility, influencing his leadership and dedication in every project he manages.

Career in Construction

In the 1990s, Scott partnered with his father to build residential homes in Boise while simultaneously managing a roofing company and framing crew. His extensive expertise eventually led him to a leadership role with Hubble Homes, overseeing a 25-person team as a General Superintendent. During the housing downturn of 2009, Scott pivoted to work with SAC Wireless, managing national cell tower installations and safety supervision. In 2012, Scott joined Shadow Mountain Homes, bringing his wealth of knowledge to the role of Construction Manager.

Today, Scott is passionate about helping clients realize their dream homes. From scheduling subcontractors to solving challenges on the fly, his organizational skills and problem-solving ability are the foundation of every project he oversees.

Life Beyond Building

Outside of work, Scott embraces Idaho’s four seasons. He enjoys traveling with his wife, riding his Harley, camping, paddleboarding, mountain biking, and playing softball. A longtime Boise resident, he’s been part of the Boise State Football family for 24 years as a chain crew member at home games.

A Passion for Idaho

For Scott, Idaho isn’t just a place to live; it’s home. Its friendly people and natural beauty fuel his passion for building homes that reflect the state’s unique charm.

Amy Dyer, Controller

Born and raised on a large cattle ranch outside of Council, Idaho, Amy Dyer grew up in an environment where hard work wasn’t measured by hours but by getting the job done. From an early age, a strong sense of honesty and loyalty was instilled in her, shaped by the leadership and example of her parents.

Military Family Background

Coming from a family with deep military roots, Amy was influenced by a culture of service and discipline. Her father served as a Green Beret in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War, while her mother, a "military brat," was raised in a military household by her father, a retired Army Colonel.

Career Path

In 1989, Amy earned an Associate’s Degree from NWCC in Powell, WY—affectionately known as "horse college," a fitting start for her passion for the industry. Shortly after, in 1990, she had the unique experience of shipping horses to Italy from Columbia, MO.

Amy began her professional career in veterinary medicine, working as a vet tech from 1991 to 1998 before transitioning into the construction industry. From 1998 to 2006, she served as Controller for a commercial subcontractor specializing in steel studs, drywall, and acoustic ceilings. She then moved into the custom home sector, working as Controller for a builder in Cambridge, Idaho, from 2006 to 2008. Seeking to expand her skill set, she spent the next four years working as a paralegal before returning to construction in 2012 as Controller and Superintendent for another local custom home builder.

Since 2014, Amy has been the Controller at Shadow Mountain Homes, overseeing financial operations, managing project costs, and contributing to the success of custom home builds. With a career spanning multiple industries and disciplines, she brings a unique blend of financial expertise, operational oversight, and hands-on experience to every project.

Tüli, Team Mascot

Amy adopted Tüli from the I.H.S. in Sept, 2021, the day after she was transferred up from Duck Valley Indian Reservation. Unlike most Border Collies, her kind and quiet nature has a very calming effect on everyone she encounters. She enjoys going to work every day with Amy, where she gets to greet clients that come to the office.

Tuli (short for Talulah, which means “leaping water” in Paiute) also loves running through the irrigation canals and swimming in the river when Amy takes her horses riding at Eagle Island State Park.

She’s one of a kind and worth a visit to the SMH office just to meet her sweet soul.

The Shadow Mountain Experience

  • C.W.

As a Realtor, it was a true pleasure to help my clients buy a Shadow Mountain home! Their team was professional, friendly, helpful, and Johnny-on-the-spot! They worked with our crazy schedule, and made sure the home is just how my clients wanted it. The home is beautiful, and of amazing quality. Their superintendent is extremely knowledgeable- our final walk through may have been the most informative I’ve ever been on. I’d gladly work with them again!

Called to ask a question about one of their past builds... and I have to say the secretary was so willing to go above and beyond in being helpful. Love it when people are willing to the extra mile.
